What Is Al-Anon

Al-Anon is a mutual support program for people whose lives have been affected by someone else's active drinking.*** By sharing common experiences and applying the Al-Anon principles, families and friends of alcoholics *** can bring positive changes to their individual situations, whether or not the alcoholic *** admits the existence of a drinking *** problem or seeks help.

*** Some clubs may offer a program called Nar-Anon - for loved ones who have substance use disorders. However, the Chetek Area Alano Club offers Al-Anon meetings that welcome families affected by both addictions.

The Al-Anon Family Groups are a fellowship of relatives and friends of alcoholics*** who share their experience, strength, and hope in order to solve their common problems. We believe alcoholism*** is a family illness and that changed attitudes can aid recovery. Al-Anon is not allied with any sect, denomination, political entity, organization, or institution; it does not engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any cause. There are no dues for membership. Al-Anon is self-supporting through its own voluntary contributions to pay for rent or Al-Anon literature. Al-Anon has but one purpose: to help families of alcoholics.*** We do this by practicing the Twelve Steps; by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics,*** and at the same time, giving understanding and encouragement to the alcoholic.***

*** The Chetek Area Alano Club holds Al-Anon meetings and welcome families that are affected by alcohol and substance use disorders.
